If you don’t know what to do this summer, then Corona Beer and Weekends Away on MTV Base have got you covered! In the second episode of the lifestyle show, well-known lifestyle curator Twiggy Moli (aka Tshepang Mollison) makes her way to the shores of Yzerfontein to explore the beauty of the Cape West Coast.
Premiering on Friday, December 4th, the unique short-format limited series sees Twiggy fill her weekend, together with fellow voyagers, with the best surprises this “hidden gem” has to offer.
Presenting options for local travel, outdoor activities and entertainment, the Corona hosted show served up a smorgasbord of activities including having Twiggy trying out sandboarding in Atlantis, exploring the local succulent nature reserve and taking in sunsets with live performances by two of South Africa’s top trending artists, Bongeziwe Mabandla known for his guitar accompanied songs “Soloko” and “Ndokilundela” and Sun-EL Musician gaining international attention with his atmospheric and sensitive Afro-futurist electronic music.
Twiggy Moli plugged into the local culture of Paternoster and then the surrounding area of Velddrif where she met the people of “Bokkomlaan” (Bokkom Avenue) along the banks of the Berg River, a place where international tourists come to see large numbers of Bokkoms, whole, salted and dried mullet, a well-known local delicacy, being cured in the rows of “drying ovens”. It’s with great sense of pride and heritage that family recipes of preparing Bokkoms get passed on to the next generation.
Back at the beach house, a special moment for Twiggy was the breathtaking ocean sunset, accompanied by a Corona and a wedge of lime on the beach house deck. The weekend away culminated with a “Moroccan Dinner experience” by Private Chef Gerda (from Gerda’s Table), a high-spirited drumming circle and live performances on the deck.
“It’s a captivating part of our country and just shows how much we have to be thankful for. I love the sense of freedom the great outdoors brings to the West Coast. We had a really special time in a very special place making loads of memories – it was a lot of fun at the Casa Corona weekend getaway,” says Twiggy.
